Nature Mug, Made with Pressed Flowers, Ceramic Coffee Cup Made in USA
I make these nature mugs in limited numbers during the fall months, the few remaining pieces will be the last of my inventory until next year.
This rustic mug was hand thrown and trimmed on my pottery wheel using a brown stoneware clay. While the clay was still soft I pressed various leaves and flowers from my garden into the clay. I then painted the exterior of the mug with white slip (liquid clay). Once the slip was dry, I peeled off the leaves leaving the natural brown clay underneath. It was then bisque fired and glazed with a clear coat on the outside and a textured blue glaze on the inside and fired again in my electric kiln. Because of the botanical removal some slightly rough texture may be felt where the leaves were impressed.
The result is a wonderful earthy cup, it's so unique and special. You can feel the impressions where each plant was impressed into the clay. These cups are a small way to connect with nature while enjoying your morning coffee or tea.
Approximate size: 3" wide and 4" high, holds 12 ounces of liquid.
